Easy Panel Roofing – How to clean composite decking

Composite decking is a great alternative to timber due to its affordability and the low amount of maintenance it requires. This type of decking looks just like real timber, so you’ll get the added benefits without the drawbacks.

Easy Panel Brisbane are experienced builders, capable of creating stunning composite decks that can be enjoyed for many years. We stock a wide range of composite decking products that are sure to suit your needs.

While composite decking is low maintenance, you’ll still need to take care of it to ensure it always looks its best. So, how do you clean composite decking? Below we’ve compiled some easy tips on how to keep your deck looking good as new!

Don’t let spills sit

One of the biggest things to remember with composite decking is to not let spills sit on the material. If you put a bit too much dip on your chip while entertaining and it falls on the ground, make sure you get some warm soapy water on a cloth or brush and wipe it up.

The same can be said for drink spills. We all know red wine can be the kiss of death when it comes to spills on timber decking, but it can also leave a mark on composite. To avoid this, act fast with some warm soapy water on a brush. Gentle scrub the mark on the decking until it fades.

Routinely clean

To keep your composite decking looking great, you should follow a cleaning routine for it. This routine doesn’t need to be complicated. Simply use a broom to get rid of any excess dirt, leaves, twigs, or other debris that has gathered on the surface. This will stop organic matter from being ground into the decking when you walk on it and also help to avoid any slipping hazards.

Around twice a year you should wash the entirety of your deck with warm water and detergent. Doing so will help to keep the surface clean and also remove any build-up of dirt or debris that may have been missed during your initial sweeping.

Use a soft brush for difficult-to-move dirt

Sometimes, no matter how hard you sweep, you may not be able to move stubborn dirt. For these tougher stains, a bit of spot cleaning could be needed.

When it comes to actually cleaning your composite decking, you don’t need to use any harsh chemicals or abrasive materials. A soft brush with mild detergent is generally all that’s needed to have your deck looking like new.

This method can also be used for removing any mould or mildew you notice building up on your deck.

After you’ve used detergent on your decking, be sure to wash it down with water to remove any excess soap that may linger.

Pressure wash (but carefully!)

Many people steer clear of pressure washing their composite deck, but with the right technique and know-how, you can safely and effectively clean your deck with this method.

When pressure washing your deck, be sure to set your machine to less than 3100 psi and to always hold the nozzle at least 25 cm away from the boards to avoid damaging them with the pressure. Also be sure to always follow the grain of the composite when using a pressure washer, rather than going against it.

Clean a small patch of rarely-seen deck (such as the space under outdoor furniture) first to make sure you won’t be doing any damage to the finish.

Alternatively, you may like to hire a professional to do the job for you. A professional will have all the products needed to give your composite deck a thorough clean, while also being able to tell you whether the machine could damage the finish of your deck.

Why choose composite decking?

There are many different reasons why you may like to install composite decking at your home. It’s available in a wide range of colours, including charcoal, mocha, and light grey.

Unlike timber, composite decking doesn’t require oiling or coating which means less maintenance. It’s also more durable than timber, and 100 percent weatherproof.

All of the composite decking installed by Easy Panel Roofing is backed by a 10-year warranty, guaranteeing you many days of enjoyment.

Our composite decking is eco-friendly as it’s made using recycled timber powders and high-density polyethylene. It also has enhanced UV stabilisation and mould resistance, making it perfect for withstanding the extremes in weather that are common in Queensland.

Composite deck components from Easy Panel are always kept in stock, allowing you to have the part you need delivered to your door within 24 to 48 hours.
